The chipmaker could provide billions in credit guarantees for the first building Anthropic contracted at the Monarch Compute Campus, The Information reported.

Nvidia is in discussions to provide financial backing to Nscale for a 460-megawatt data center project in West Virginia that Nscale is developing for Anthropic, according to a report from The Information. The publication cited people with knowledge of the deal discussions who said an agreement might have Nvidia providing billions of dollars in credit guarantees to support the debt for the construction project.

Nscale's Monarch Compute Campus is the company's largest project. Nscale has signed two contracts with Anthropic, each covering 460 megawatts of capacity at the West Virginia campus and each valued at around $45 billion. The second agreement was signed in October 2026.

Nscale acquired the 2,250-acre site for the Monarch campus in March 2026. The property could support up to 8 gigawatts of capacity. A first phase is planned at 2 gigawatts and is expected to come online in the first half of 2028. Caterpillar will supply fast-response natural gas generator sets for power from its G3500 series.

The Information reported that the credit support agreement would cover the expenses for power and construction for the first data center building Anthropic hired Nscale to build. That building will house Nvidia Vera Rubin hardware. The backstop is estimated to be more than $5 billion. It would allow Nscale to obtain loans for the development, with Nvidia responsible if Nscale fails to pay.

Nscale is preparing for an initial public offering. The company filed in September 2026, and later that month raised $3.36 billion in private funding.

Nvidia has made large investments in several neoclouds, and these companies are also major customers of the chip designer. Nvidia has put an estimated $170 billion into neoclouds and major clients, sometimes backing their construction with loan guarantees. In late October, reports said Nvidia was discussing an investment of several hundred million dollars in Australian neocloud Firmus after Firmus cancelled its own IPO.

DatacenterDynamics said it has contacted Nscale and Nvidia for comment.
